The art project Dedicated to Life aims to shed new light on our planet by exploring existence from a number of intellectual and emotional perspectives. Through a dynamic fusion of narration in speech and writing, a unique photographic style and the emotional power of music, the intention is to create commitment and inspire action.
Erik Malm’s experience as a musician, conductor, company director and photographer with a growing international reputation gives the project exceptional breadth. Erik’s work reflects a lifelong passion for life on Earth, together with an ability to explore global issues from both a scientific and artistic perspective.
His intention with this art project is to increase the diversity of voices in the existing discussions about the environment and sustainability. Through lectures, books and art exhibitions, Erik wants not merely to inspire but also to create insights and the commitment that generates the impetus to make changes.
A project in several parts
Dedicated to Life is an ambitious project in terms of both time and expression. It will be possible to experience the results in several different ways. Alone or together with others. At your own pace or as a magnificent total experience in an interplay of words, images, music and dance.
Art photography book. Part of the project is an extensive art photography book, planned for publication in 2028. Emotionally moving and with inspiring texts in several languages, visual narratives offer the reader the chance to experience spectacular locations around the world in a new way. A number of expeditions and visits to natural sites remain to complete this work.
Documentary. Film-maker Tony Meyer is documenting the majority of Erik Malm’s global expeditions to create a TV documentary on Dedicated to Life. All film material on the project website is Tony’s creation. For more information about Tony Meyer, visit his website here.
Exhibitions. Exhibitions of Erik Malm’s fine art prints. Here the visitors have the opportunity to experience the works directly within the project framework.
Unique lecture concept. Erik Malm has created three different versions of his lecture to share the Dedicated to Life project’s vision and message:
1. A lecture where Erik shares his photographic visions and the working methods that have garnered international awareness. He will also talk about his adventures in the wilderness of nature and how his musical background affects his photography.
2. The World is Like Music – an expanded lecture concept with carefully selected music that brings an extra dimension to the presentation. Here Erik Malm’s roles as conductor and photographer are combined in a live performance with a symphony orchestra. The result is an experience that speaks to both heart and brain.
Dedicated to Life – the grand performance
The final lecture format is a complete work that summarises the entire mammoth art project.
In this full-scale performance, Erik Malm is supported by dancers and a symphony orchestra, coming together to explore every dimension of the message in Dedicated to Life. The project perspective, issues and content are depicted in words, music and movement, building to a magnificent conclusion in a performance where every segment reinforces the overall experience, both intellectually and emotionally.
Here, too, Erik Malm has carefully chosen the works to be performed, so the music complements and emphasises the content of the presentation.
More detailed music information will be provided separately to potential representatives from the music/orchestral world.
New perspectives through the many languages of art
At the core of Erik Malm’s lecture model is a vision of allowing different artforms to enhance each other and to indicate new paths to intense experiences. By combining music and photography, Erik hopes to create new perspectives both for those without any close relationship with the language and power of classical music and for those who perhaps lack strong contact with nature. This will shape a dual journey that can stimulate new reflections and thoughts about our collective life – and perhaps even inspire action.
