Erik Malm

Photographer, company director, musician and conductor

Erik Malm’s work exists at the intersection of music, visual art, and human perception.

With a professional background as a clarinetist and conductor, trained at the Gothenburg Academy of Music and under the renowned pedagogue Jorma Panula, he has performed as a solo clarinetist with the Malmö Opera Orchestra and worked as a conductor with the Philharmonic Chamber Ensemble.

Alongside his musical career, Erik co-founded and led the development of the Swedish company Malmstolen AB, where he was responsible for research and design, gaining deep expertise in biomechanics, physiology, and human-centered design.

After more than two decades, the company was successfully acquired by a leading European group, allowing Erik to fully dedicate himself to his artistic work.

A unique visual language

Erik Malm is internationally recognized for a distinctive photographic technique.

What began as a “mistake”—a blurred image caused by camera movement—became the foundation of a method refined over decades. By deliberately moving the camera during long exposures, he creates images that resemble paintings rather than traditional photographs.

The result is a visual language where light, rhythm, and motion interact—often described as music expressed through images.

His work is collected internationally and presented in books, exhibitions, and collaborations.

Where disciplines converge

Throughout his life, a single principle has remained constant:
the discipline of practice and the pursuit of depth.

Today, all these experiences converge in Dedicated to Life:

A large-scale artistic project where music, photography, and storytelling come together to explore one central question:

What does it mean to be alive—on this planet, at this moment in time?
